Playing About With Gelli Prints

I've been finding a little time to mess about in my Summer Night Garden sketchbook.  I came across some gelli prints that I had printed a while back but never got round to doing anything with. So I thermofax printed, cut, tore, glued and collaged!

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who left such kind wishes last week for my hubby's recovery from his hip replacement operation - I really appreciate your thoughtful comments.  He is doing incredibly well and is pretty much pain free now - I'm still amazed at how effective this has been - hats off to the NHS, they have done a fantastic job.

I'm linking up with Julia over at What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday this week - why not hop over and see what other people are up to.

  8. That's great news that your hubby is doing so well, it's incredible how such a major op is commonplace these days. Being pain free is fantastic, he'll be off like a shot now!!
Those prints are so gorgeous, any one could be framed and look amazing on a wall somewhere. I like the subdued colourways, it works really well.
Hope you're keeping well and happy,

  9. You make even gelli prints look classy, Diana! Good luck to hubby with his new hip - my mum had a double hip replacement a while ago and made a full recovery. I'm not doing WOYWW this week, just popping in to say hello.

  13. Beautiful pieces in your journal..love how you use the technical term..am gonna assume its what we called 'sun printing' at school?!! Very very glad (as I expect you are relieved) to hear that the op has been a success, sounds like a perfect patient and a text book recovery - long may it continue!

  20. Your prints are really beautiful, leading to some very atmospheric pages. The night garden would be a wonderful place to wander on a balmy, sleepless night.

So glad that all has been going well for your husband and his hip - and yes, hats off indeed to the NHS.

  21. Till I googled it, I didn't know what thermofax was. It looks pretty complicated and you need a special machine for it, but in your case I would say it was well worth the investment! I love your beautiful muted prints. That gorgeous blue is perfect for the night garden theme. So glad your hubby is doing so well after his hip operation. Modern surgery is a marvel, and it really helps, getting people moving so soon afterwards, and everyone says how great the results of hip replacements are, once one has made a full recovery. He'll be a new man! Mum, at 96, did really well after her recent one (after falling and breaking her hip) but mentally she seems to have given up now and isn't getting up, and is not really eating. She's had a good innings, though. She's been miserable for years so it will be a release, I think!

Thank you for your lovely comment - I can just imagine you as a little girl, bringing home stunning creations and wowing everybody at school and home! Toilet roll innards are wonderful things for young and old - so versatile! Both our kitties absolutely adore my hubby and will always go to him so he has both, and I have none! Ah well... I get their attention when he's out! So glad you like my latest bit of embroidery - I kept adding more bits and thought I should stop before it went crazy! The support garments lady never turned up and didn't return my call till this a.m. and said she had it in her diary for today. I am so fed up with all this hassle and my hubby suggested I had a word with the stoma nurse while we're at the hospital today because they should know what's going on. The garments lady is coming this p.m.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  23. Thank you for your return visit, Diana, and I laughed at what you said about the Guinea pigs preferring your hubby! As you say, what have they got that we haven't? Haha!! Thanks for the info on thermofax. You certainly know a lot about all sorts of out of the way techniques!! The support garments lady didn't turn up, but came the following day. More info on my blog. A fairly unsatisfactory appointment with my surgeon on Thurs. too. I hate all this uncertainty...

  24. Oh wow Diana, these are incredible, and to think they started as gelli prints.....So like some other folk I had to google Thermofax prints and can now see a whole new hobby coming on when I retire at the end of this school year.... I just love the monochrome effects you achieved,- stunning!! (I also adore the square size of your sketchbook)....

I apologize for my lack of visits lately, but I have been incredibly busy and then travelling (often without internet) so blogging had to take a back seat, - but visiting your blog is always an inspiration and I look forward to my next visit. Glad to hear your hubby is recovering so well! The NHS often gets a lot of bad press, but I also have only had wonderful experiences with them...

  26. All these prints are just gorgeous, Diana. I love how you've chosen a limited palette which really off the designs. I am pleased to hear how well your hubby is doing after his operation. I agree wholeheartedly with hats off to the NHS! They have certainly done very well for me too! Thank you for such a sweet comment, especially about Phoebe. Beatrice is definitely pining and spending time in Phoebe's favourite places, almost as if she's expecting her to come back to claim them. She's quite subdued and is clearly missing her. Thank you for your lovely comments about my latest art efforts too - I am very pleased with how they turned out, and loving the effects of Infusions with stencils and texture. I'm a bit of a teabag evangelist so I'm glad I've converted you lol! I've got thousands of them and think there would probably be enough to make several king-sized quilts with them!! They are really fun to make art with. It's been quite a week and I've still got quite a bit of catching up to do before I can spend much time in the studio unfortunately.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
